My thoughts: This is, if I’m not mistaken, author Göran Brohammer’s debut when it comes to novels, he has a number of non-fiction books behind him. If you were to try to place the book within a genre, which you often want to do, I would say that this is a philosophical suspense novel that wants to take a stand when it comes to environmental and animal rights and even human rights. We follow a man, Artan, who goes out into the world on various journeys, all of the journeys have in common that he tries to uncover different types of misdeeds when it comes to either the environment, animal rights, and human rights. He does it in parts of the world where these things occur, the fact is that even in these countries it is a danger to bring out the truth. Those who commit these errors find it easy to resort to violence to hide the truth. As I said, the book has a philosophical vein and it is the main character’s thoughts that we get to share, his outlook on life, and the experiences that shape him through life. In a way, I could understand his train of thought, but in another way, I had a hard time getting through to him. It could be that as a character he was so far removed from what I associate myself with when it comes to daring to do things and responding to whims that you get. I am the one who dares a little and takes my time before I go into something, so I often do what I first thought was another matter. I found that I felt that Artan responded quickly to his whims and quickly plunged into the unknown, something that contradicted my own train of thought. The language is easy to grasp and the plot takes many turns. We experience a dark side of what is going on in the world when it comes to the issues it raises. The main character is a real environmental activist and is really passionate about it, if you are interested in these issues and with a philosophical view, you will probably find this interesting. It is a mix of an outlook on life and scientific thoughts, finding a place in the world or rather a meaning with one’s life, but also understanding the universe to a greater extent and a travelogue as we get to experience many parts of the world. There is an element of suspense if you prefer it in the books you read.
